Minimum 3 liters per person per day in moderate heat. In desert festivals (EDC, Burning Man), plan for 4-5L. Freeze water bottles the night before — they double as cooler ice packs and provide cold water as they melt.
You lose salt when you sweat. Plain water isn't enough. Pack electrolyte packets (Liquid IV, LMNT, Nuun) — one per person per day minimum. Signs of electrolyte depletion: headache, nausea, muscle cramps.
Pre-make meals that don't need refrigeration: wraps, PB&J supplies, trail mix, protein bars, fruit that travels well (apples, oranges). For hot meals: a single-burner camp stove with pre-portioned ingredients works for groups of 4-6.
Block ice lasts 2-3x longer than cubes. Pre-chill your cooler with ice the night before loading food. Keep drinks in a separate cooler from food (you open the drink cooler 10x more). Drain meltwater daily.
Ask your crew about allergies and restrictions BEFORE buying food. Label shared containers. Keep allergen-free options separate. Common festival-friendly options that work for most diets: rice bowls, fruit, nuts, hummus + veggies.
