It's louder, bigger, and more tiring than you think. The best festivals feel like a temporary city — with their own culture, rhythm, and unwritten rules. Give yourself permission to be overwhelmed on Day 1. It gets better.
Comfortable shoes are the #1 priority — you'll walk 10-15 miles per day. Layers for temperature swings (hot days, cold nights). Avoid brand new shoes. Fanny pack or small crossbody for essentials. Leave the expensive jewelry at home.
Don't push to the front during a set — arrive early if you want a good spot. Pick up your trash. Don't record entire sets on your phone. Be kind to people having a hard time. Respect personal space in crowds.
You cannot see everything. Accept this early. Pick 3-4 must-see acts per day and leave gaps between them. Eat real meals (not just snacks). Sleep at least 5 hours. The people who burn out on Day 1 miss the best sets on Day 3.
Portable phone charger (10,000mAh minimum). Earplugs. Sunscreen. Cash (some vendors are cash-only). A bandana (dust, sun, cold). Wet wipes. A positive attitude about things not going to plan — because they won't.
